HENDERSON, Nev. — The Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS) named Christopher Carrillo, president and CEO of Metro MLS, the fifth recipient of the Peter Shuttleworth MLS Executive Award of Excellence at the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Multiple Listing Service Association Executive Session on Nov. 8, 2019. Carrie Kendall, CMLS director and general manager of IRMLS, introduced the award while Merri Jo Cowen, CMLS director, CEO of Stellar MLS and the 2018 Shuttleworth Award recipient, made the announcement.

The Peter Shuttleworth MLS Executive Award of Excellence is an annual award that recognizes leaders who are determined to have exhibited the highest qualities of leadership within their organizations and demonstrated a dedication to excellence in Making The Market Work®.

“Chris Carrillo never hides his passion and wears it with pride which is why we are pleased to recognize him as the 2019 Shuttleworth Award recipient, the MVP,” said Cowen. “Chris promotes and advocates for the value of MLS every day and is a champion of advancing the MLS both nationally and in his local market.”

Carrillo has been actively involved in the real estate industry since joining the Northern Nevada Regional MLS as an IT director more than two decades ago. He also served as CEO of CRIS Regional MLS in northeast Ohio before being named CEO of Metro MLS. Metro MLS serves over 8,300 REALTORS® in 2,100 offices and provides public records data to a variety of companies statewide. He has helped navigate change while remaining at the forefront of ongoing technology and customer service demands.

In addition to his role as an executive leader, Carrillo contributes his experience and expertise to several professional organizations and trade associations. He currently serves on the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Multiple Listing Issues and Policies Committee, NAR MLS Technology and Emerging Issues Advisory Board, NAR MLS Executive’s Advisory Board, Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO) Board of Directors, and as chair of the CMLS Board of Directors.

In addition to industry service, Carrillo is driving innovation within the MLS community. He is a founding member of Inman Innovator Award finalist MLS Aligned, which is a company created to improve data ef-ficiency for Multiple Listing Services. He is also a key proponent and partner in developing the first non-contiguous joint venture between Metro MLS and Arizona Multiple Listing Service (ARMLS), which resulted in the formation of MARKT LLC.

Aside from his numerous contributions to the industry, Carrillo is a youth sports coach. He also attended Northern Illinois University and recently completed CMLS’s executive leadership training program, CMLX3. Prior to real estate, he served with the U.S. Army Military Police Corps.

Carrillo was selected as the fifth recipient of the Peter Shuttleworth MLS Executive Award of Excellence because of his passion for doing what is best for the industry, his reputation for moving the industry forward with respect and integrity, and desire to deliver value to the MLS community to build a better marketplace.

The award itself is named after Peter Shuttleworth, former executive vice president of Metro MLS and the first CMLS Hall of Fame inductee. Shuttleworth built one of the first truly effective regional MLSs in the United States by bringing brokers, REALTORS®, and REALTOR® associations together around the idea that data can be shared without borders. Under his leadership, he partnered with Wisconsin MLS providers to create a statewide data share that continues to promote cooperation among real estate practitioners today.
